World Newspaper Congress
The growth of
Newspapers in the USA
in next five years will be the
important topic of presentation at
the 61st World Newspaper Congress
to be held from 1-4 June, 2008 in
Goteberg, Sweden. Dean Singleton,
the vice chairman and CEO of the
MediaNews Group in the United
States will speak in a session on
“Newspapers: A Multi-Media,
Growth Business, where he will
present his group’s strategy plans
for the next five years, while
addressing the current difficulties
of the most challenging market in
the world.
Singleton, whose company is the
largest privately held newspapers
in the USA, with 68 daily and more
than 120 non-daily publications,
says US newspapers have a
promising future but will be much
different than they were in the past.
The challenges facing newspapers
in the US, the world’s largest
advertising market and a hypercompetitive
media environment, are
well known. Although circulation is
falling, Singleton argues that robust
online and new product growth will
offset that trend, and that a revised
version of the printed newspaper will
also slow the decline.
Besides Singleton, Board Director of
Eenadu newspaper group-I Venkat
from India will also be one of the
other congress speakers at the event.
