Three cheers for The Times of India: INMA Awards 2008 announced
INMA changes its name
INMA has changed its name to International Newsmedia Marketing
Association from its earlier elaboration as International Newspaper
Marketing Association. This decision was taken in order to conform
the evolution of its member newspapers and lead the newspaper
industry towards a multi-media future.
The board of directors of the organization voted unanimously for the
name change after a year of internal discussions on a fitting alternative
name that would fully reflect the breadth of media owned and operated
by newspaper companies.
INMA president Ed Efchak made the announcement on May 9 at the
78th Annual INMA World Congress in Beverly Hills.

The winners of 73rd Annual
INMA Awards competition
were announced on May 7.
The coveted global prizes were
presented by its president Ed
Efchak in recognition to the best
newspaper marketing campaigns
from the past year.
Before hundreds of attendants at
the Beverly Hilton Hotel, INMA
announced the names of nearly 90
first place, second place, and
third place recipients of this
prestigious prize.
The “Best of Show” award was
presented to The Times of India,
for a community service campaign
titled “Lead India.” Second place
was given to Ekstra Bladet
(Denmark), for a community service
campaign titled “Redaktionen/
The Newsroom - An Internet-Based
Editorial Platform for Schools.”
Meanwhile, third place was
presented to De Standaard
(Belgium) for a readership campaign
titled “Islam File.”
The Times of India’s “Best of
Show” title puts the Indian
newspaper among elite company of
the world’s most renowned
newspapers in the likes of Kleine
Zeitung (Austria), Het Nieuwsblad
(Belgium), Frankfurter Allgemeine
Zeitung (Germany), The New York
Times (United States), The
Australian (Australia), and The New
Zealand Herald – all of whom were
earlier recipients of the same award.

Development category
for ‘under-75,000’
circulation group, was
one of the three other
newspaper publishers
that won more than one
‘first-place’ awards. The
other two are Australia’s
Queensland Times and
Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet.
With this fete, Times of
India becomes the first Indian and
Asian newspaper to ever win the
INMA Awards competition’s “Best
of Show.”
The INMA Awards 2008
competition was participated by
200 newspapers from 34 different
countries with 755 entries to make.
For the first time, judging was
conducted via internet by 21
judges worldwide from the field
of media, advertising, marketing,
and research. Judging was based
on concept, creativity, copy/
graphic design, production, and
overall effectiveness, as well as
results. Entries were judged in
comparison to other entries.
This year’s competition marked new
categories and ‘multi-media
marketing’ efforts were rewarded.
Judges selected award recipients in
10 categories in three circulation
groups: under-75,000; 75,000-
300,000; and over 300,000.
