DRM opts Schur as
future mailroom partner

For their upcoming top modern printing plant near Frankfurt, Druckzentrum Rhein Main (DRM) has selected Schur as future mailroom partner. When Verlagsgruppe Rhein Main and Medienhaus Südhessen join forces in their future large top modern printing plant, DRM, in Rüsselsheim, the mailroom system will consist of state-of-the-art equipment from Schur.

The new installation at DRM will be representing a complete mailroom solution consisting of five high-capacity production lines of which four of the lines include buffer and storage system, inserting, and packaging line - each line with three stacker processing lines, including bundle address labelling, strapping, wrapping, and a truck loading bay system. The mailroom system is designed for flexibility and cost-efficiency and is highly automated requiring a minimum of manning. The four NewsStar inserters will be the heart of the production lines, offering the opportunity to run a high number of inserts at high speed. Furthermore, the Schur solution will ensure the zoning possibility and thus individualisation of the paper down to one copy.

The installation of the mailroom at DRM will be assigned in May 2010 and by mid-November Druckzentrum Rhein Main will start up the production. The DRM will be one of the major printing facilities in Europe with a weekly production of 28 different newspapers at an average circulation of 330,000 copies and additionally also printing an amount of one million supplements.

“We chose Schur’s mailroom solution, not only because of the technical specifications and the economic scale of investment, but more importantly we based the decision on the low future running costs,” stated Michael Rettig from DRM.

With the development of the high-speed inserter NewsStar and the recent acquisition of IDAB WAMAC, Schur Packaging Systems signals a strong belief in the future. “We consider ourselves as an important future partner for newspaper printing houses. This agreement with DRM only confirms our strategy. Apart from having the most reliable and cost efficient product programme, we believe that the prescription of success means having a dedicated organisation, which develops and maintains a long-term partnership with the customers through close co-operation at all levels,” commented Ulrik Sthaalros, managing director of Schur Packaging Systems.
