World premieres from Ferag at drupa
-exhibits excellence to derive future-proofed solutions
At drupa 08, Ferag showcased
huge technological progress,
new types of products and
business models, clearly on the rise.
The company considers that one of
its primary tasks is to get to grips
with market requirements in their
entirety. From there, it can derive
future-proofed solutions that are
open to development, and promise
publishers and printing houses
efficiency, investment security, and
full use of existing value-creation
potential.
Ferag confirmed its traditional
commitment to newspaper
producers with a production line
that aims at far more than classic
newspaper processing. Add-on
components for trimming and
stitching as well as system-wide
format presetting with PreTronic N
allow the efficient production of
high-quality magazines and
advertising products with varying
formats as an addition to newspaper
processing, and also make for the
fastest set-up sequences. If
publishers and printers are to remain
competitive, this expansion in
production capacity is set to
become an increasingly important
area of operations.
In the spotlight at drupa 08, there
was fully automatic presetting
with PreTronic CV plus quality
monitoring with QualityEye. Due to
simple functions combined with
paper transport that’s always in the
right direction, the UniDrum creates
the ideal conditions for short
changeover sequences, high quality
during the run-up phase, and
extremely rapid acceleration to
maximum speeds. As a result, the
net output of the UniDrum gathererstitcher
drum from the lower to the
top circulations comes out at a cost
per copy that’s possible only with
rotary processing. And with central
PreTronic format presetting, system
productivity now undergoes
another significant boost. The
QualityEye quality monitoring
system assures perfect product
quality and stable production,
besides monitoring the correct
positioning of the signatures on the
UniDrum carrier elements.

Ferag also emphasised the wide
performance scope of its control
concept – with the LineMaster on
the one hand, and the PostPress
Management system on the other.
Workflow integration was at centre
stage as part of the Prime Network
initiative, along with the
standardisation of interfaces that
this initiative seeks to achieve. At
the show, polybagging celebrated
its world premiere in the 30,000-
performance class in the form of
PolyStream.
Jointly with Ferag, WRH Marketing
presented the new PACESETTER +
ferag…. Linked as a system to
another new development, the SNT-
30 trimming drum, the gathererstitcher
combines selective binding
and high production speeds within
a new concept. Unlike conventional
trimmers, speeds achieved with the
SNT-30 trimming drum on the
PACESETTER + ferag…are
effectively 25,000 cph. Besides,
WRH Marketing displayed its
combined advertising models ‘Front
Page Publicity’ for the front page
of newspapers. Unlike printed
advertisements or inserted
advertising supplements‚ Front
Page Publicity models encourage
the reader to take specific shortterm
action that leads to direct
contact with the advertiser. WRH
Marketing has also developed
XtraWin, a business model that is
of interest to newspaper producers.
