Kodak enjoys successful drupa
- unveils ELECTRA XD thermal plates and MAGNUS 800Z QUANTUM platesetter
Eastman Kodak Company
exceeded the aggressive
business goals at their debut
at drupa. As the two-week run of
drupa 08 closed, Kodak’s Graphic
Communications Group (GCG)
concluded a hugely successful
event, taking hundreds of orders,
conducting thousands of
demonstrations, and logging in
excess of 10,000 qualified leads. At
the event, the company unveiled
Kodak ELECTRA XD thermal plates
and Kodak MAGNUS 800Z
QUANTUM platesetter, besides a
number of other products.

The Kodak MAGNUS 800Z
QUANTUM platesetter delivers
high speeds up to 60 plates per hour
with exceptional image quality with
the added advantage of a new
advanced thermal head that
generates double the laser power
of its MAGNUS platesetter
predecessors. The new thermal
head not only increases the speed
of plate production, but it also
provides broader imaging latitude
and higher stability in case of plate
sensitivity variations - making this
one of the most reliable and cost
effective platesetters on the market.
With greater process stability, this
platesetter can easily achieve 10-
micron Kodak STACCATO
screening, advanced FM screening
that brings more vibrant colours and
extraordinary detail to projects that
require an elevated level of accuracy
and definition.
Besides, Kodak unveild the next level
of digital plate for high performance
printing with the new Kodak
ELECTRA XD thermal plate,
exhibiting impressive prepress and
on press stability for excellent
resolution, run length, and colour
control throughout the full press run.
With typically triple the unbaked run
length of the ELECTRA HR plates,
the highly durable ELECTRA XD
plate also helps printers reduce
overall plate consumption and
energy usage while maintaining
consistency, stability,
and print quality. This
plate is rated for
500,000 impressions
without baking and 1.5
million baked, and is
ideal for medium to
long run sheetfed and
heatset/coldset web
offset operations.
The ELECTRA XD plate extends
Kodak’s leadership in thermal
plates. Plate innovations include:
the first thermal CtP plate at drupa
1995; the Kodak ELECTRA plate,
the first no preheat thermal plate
and world’s best selling thermal
plate to date; the Kodak SWORD
thermal printing plate, the first no
preheat and highly robust
thermal plate; the Kodak
THERMALNEWS digital plate, the
first high speed thermal newspaper
plate; and the Kodak THERMAL
DIRECT Non Process plate.
Beyond thermal plates, Kodak’s
broad portfolio of digital plates
offers options for violet laser
systems for commercial printing
and newspaper publishing.
