And the journey towards expansion continues!
The advancement is a relentless process! The eagerness, anxiety and of-course the
furtherance by print and electronic media have changed the scenario completely.
Now, the common man whether in metro, smaller city or village is always looking
to get news of the neighbourhood as well as from the whole country and he is equally
concerned to know what is happening world over. This trend is being seen growing
phenomenally in the last couple of years. To fulfill this desire of readers/viewers, the
situation of handful newspapers, news magazines or news channels have changed a lot,
resulting into availability of good number of choices to select from.
Going a step further, region-wise introduction of newspapers/news magazines and news
channels is also seen substantially in more vernacular languages. Not only this, the circulation
of publications is also going high, thus resulting into the need of installing state-of-the-art
modern equipments in pre-press, press and post-press areas of
printing/publishing houses. If one looks into the installation trends
of these modern equipments during the last 12 months, one
finds that numerous CtPs are being installed in newspapers
houses and some of the well-established brands are able to
have good number of their population. The Bhaskar group and
The Times of India group recently placed their orders for Krause
for around 20 nos. of CtPs put together. Similar has been the
case with editorial and advertising management solutions, where
majority of newspapers are opting for efficient and faster
offerings from multiple vendors. The Times of India recently
has planned to change altogether their existing systems to new ones in their
20 odd locations involving more than 1,000 CCI NewsGate seats apart from installing
high-speed web presses of repute at various facilities. The Hindustan Times is also not left
behind. Apart from installing new equipments in pre-press, press and mailroom, they have
taken a surprise move by bringing rotogravure presses to India in a joint venture agreement
with Burda Druck (Germany). With this JV, one can expect new range of magazines
coming out from the group. The delivery schedules offered by most of the leading
brands of web press manufacturers in our country also give a clear-cut picture of
their overloaded orderbooks.
Another interesting activity being seen is the increasing instances of FDI in various
newspapers publishing groups, which obviously will result into total modernisation
of production facilities. The recent visit of media conglomerate Rupert Murdoch
(chairman-News Corp) also needs to be taken seriously as this may pave a path to new
national media policy of our country.
This particular issue of AAN is full of such big news, which gives an indication of the
growth happening rapidly in the industry. In totality, all these would keep the Indian newspaper
industry on a faster track to keep their journey of progress on the move.
