Newsprint prices continue to rise
Steep rise in newsprint prices
doesn’t seem to be getting
stable. In India for the second
Q of this financial year, newsprint
prices have been increased up to
11-12% compared to the first Q.
Within last six months, domestic
newsprint prices have gone up by
51%, while imported one saw 54%
price hike. It is mostly happening
because of the reduction in
newsprint production by Canadian
and European mills, and restrictive
imports from Chinese firms. It has
become compulsion for the newspaper
publishers to insist more on increasing
ad revenues. Owing to the greater
competition in the market and race to
maximize the circulation, they are
unable to increase cover price.
