and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) News Design
Conference held from June 03-04, 2014 at Hotel Courtyard Marriott in Mumbai.

WAN-IFRA News Design
Conference organised in
association with Society for
News Design (SND) in Mumbai,
expressed that newspapers and
digital news products should
develop designs tailored to
contents. Delivering the keynote
address of the conference,
world’s renowned newspaper
designer Lucie Lacava of
Lacava Designs Inc, Canada
asserted that design must be
tailored to contents and must
speak to the readers in its own
unique voice.
WAN-IFRA organises its News
Design Conference in biennial
interval. The last edition of
the conference took place
in 2012 in New Delhi. This
conference aims to bring to
South Asia the advancement in
visual storytelling techniques and
showcase best practices in news
design in print and digital from
around the world. Main topics
discussed at the conference
this year included Design and
Redesign, Infographics and
Typography, Online and Tablet
Designs.
Many leading Indian and
overseas newspapers including
The Economic Times, The
New York Times, Hindustan
Times, The Washington Post,
Malayala Manorama, Mid Day,
Amar Ujala, among others
participated in the WAN-IFRA
News Des ign Conference
shared their experiences of
creating good designs. Die Zeit,
which was adjudged as ‘World’s
Best Designed Newspaper’ by
SND six times more than any
other newspaper, presented a
case study on their classic
design style and experiences.

two parallel pre-conference
workshops on Newspaper Design
and Tablet Design organised on
June 02, 2014.
