The Society for News Design has honored five newspapers with the award of ‘World’s Best-Designed Newspaper’, showing that manroland web systems customers represent powerful brands that are successful in the competition between media forms.
How does a print product win the award of World’s Best-Designed Newspaper 2013? With outstanding optical appeal, a culture of careful editing of all content, and the outstanding overall impression that comes as a result. This is how the international Society for News Design (SND) sees it. The society conferred the design award among others to the German newspapers Welt am Sonntag and Die Zeit, Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter and The Grid in Canada. Innovative design must be backed up by production quality, and this is provided by COLORMAN presslines from manroland web systems. Here the award winners are not only impressive on the prestigious title page but also right through the entire product. The appeal of Axel Springer‘s Welt am Sonntag “is not only design, it is a culture.” Award winner Die Zeit “makes you feel smarter just by looking at it.” Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter “demonstrates its journalistic and optical skills on every page.” In the case of The Grid, a division of Toronto Star Newspapers Limited in Canada, “it feels ahead of its time when many newspapers lack freshness.” And the judgment for “Politiken” in Denmark: “the designers and editors somehow manage to renew their energy every day.”
