Double success of Q.I. Press
Controls in a week in China
Q.I. Press Controls achieves double success
in China, within a week. Two leading
Chinese newspapers, Gan Su Daily
and Liao Cheng Daily, have opted to invest in
the mRC-3D with AIMS (Automatic Ink Mist
Shield). Gan Su Daily had already purchased
the mRC+ for its existing GOSS press, but the
newspaper has once again opted for the new
variant mRC-3D with AIMS for its new GOSS
Magnum 45 with three full-colour towers. It is
a logical step to upgrade to the mRC-3D for the
new press. It will not only to safeguard quality,
but also cut down on materials.
Paul Yu, MD, Q.I. Press Controls China, mentioned,
“We have been told both organisations are giving
serious consideration to a follow-up investments
in our products, once their systems are running
up to speed.” On the other side, Liao Cheng Daily
has plumped for the same system for its GOSS
Magnum 45 press following a fact-finding mission
to another satisfied customer in China. It wasn’t
just the products offered by Q.I. Press Controls
that helped win the orders from the two leading
newspapers, but the service too. “They (Gan Su
Daily) are extremely happy with the quality of
our system. The fact that we provided excellent
levels of service in the past was a major factor
in them choosing us again. Our system impressed
well on Liao Cheng Daily too,” remarked Paul.
At GanSu Daily, Paul assessed what the best
method would be for applying the cut-off on the
printing presses and explained that Liao Cheng
Daily is also looking to fit its other presses with
the mRC-3D. Menno Jansen, managing director
of Q.I. Press Controls, is confident that both
the newspapers will continue the collaboration
in future and he considered the two orders as
an indication of where the Chinese market is
heading to. He further explained that the double
success reminded him of the two orders that were
placed by Chinese companies in 2014; they also
arrived in the space of a week and involved the
same sort of automatic solutions for the same
kind of presses.

Satisfied Polish customer opts
Q.I. Press Controls again
Eurodruk-Poznán, based in Poznán (Poland),
has once again opted for Q.I. Press controls.
The heat-set firm is already equipped with
three systems from Q.I. Press Controls operating
on various presses. In fact, Eurodruk is so pleased
that they have chosen to upgrade completely to
the mRC-3D for colour registration and cut-off.
Upgrading its manroland LITHOMAN III with four
printing units and a folder is a logical next step.
Initially, Eurodruk wanted to expand the current
automatic solution on the press with cut-off, but
because the system is more than twelve years old,
the company decided in favour of giving the press
a complete upgrade.
Main objective of the upgradation is that Eurodruk-Poznán expects the quality of its products will
increase, whilst at the same time production costs will diminish. When the system is fully up
to scratch, this will automatically lead to working standards in the business being raised. Arslan
Miftachoglu, MD, Q.I. Press Controls Germany is enthusiastic about Eurodruk’s positive reaction
and he asserts that the result of having such a satisfied customer is not only that word of Q.I.
Press Controls’ reputation gets spread around in Poland and the surrounding countries, but this
also has influenced internally.

Mediengruppe
Oberfranken in
Bamberg adopts
COLORMAN e:line
Newly adopted Manroland COLORMAN
e:line at Mediengruppe Oberfranken is
an important cornerstone for the fast
and economic production of in-house and
external publications and advertising materials.
Very fast in every aspect, the press was
launched successfully in Bamberg on March
16. The daily production for external customers
whooshed through the new printing couples,
during night-time production alone the press
will output around 1,15,000 newspaper copies.
COLORMAN e:line replaces two rotary
presses of another manufacturer and serves
as a central element in the long-term future
orientation of Mediengruppe Oberfranken. At
the time of the purchasing decision in 2014,
Walter Schweinsberg, MD, Mediengruppe
Oberfranken said, “The investment in the
Bamberg location will fulfill the quality
requirements of newspaper production for the
next 15 years.” The Mediengruppe printing
experts precisely analysed the developments
of the newspaper market. They expect a
consolidation of printing to fewer locations
in Germany and increased outsourcing of
newspaper printing by the publishing companies.
To enhance its successful production concept,
Mediengruppe Oberfranken quickly decided on
the COLORMAN e:line last year. The concept
of the 32-page press was compelling. The press
consists of two eight-couple towers, a folder
and two reel splicers. The e:line operates at
a speed of 50,000 cylinder revolutions per
hour. In Bamberg, the company produces nine
newspaper editions.

TOI opts for Q.I. Press
Controls’ mRC-3D
Latest order from The Times of India (TOI)
to Q.I. Press Controls is for latter’s latest
automatic registration solution mRC-3D,
which is designed with dual CMOS optical
technology and their latest innovation Automatic
Ink Mist Shield (AIMS). AIMS can reduce the
pollution of the lens by automatically replacing
a shield that is placed in front of the camera.
The newspaper has also invested in waste gate
control and Intelligent Quality Management (IQM)
for quality management reporting.
The investment is for their Manroland GEOMAN
double width press (6 tower and 1 twin folder)
installed at Ghaziabad. The order consists of 12
motorised mRC-3D cameras for register control and
12 motorised mRC-3D cameras for cut-off control.
Additionally each folder will be equipped with
waste gate control. With these features, TOI will
ensure the continuation of monitoring and tracking
for good and consistent print quality delivered to its
end user. The newspaper achieved faster printing,
considerable increase in waste savings and is now
able to keep track of giving consistent quality to
their customer base.
TOI considered that the concept being offered
by Q.I. Press Controls is of great value to the
company: The double-sensor technology not
only doubles the possibilities but can also cope
more effectively with depth; which is the reason
for the 3D designation for mRC’s latest colour
register camera. This concept proves its great
added value particularly well in case of unsteady
paper web routings and surfaces for achieving
consistent quality.
As TOI is known in India for its good print
quality, the order for the supply of Q.I. Press
Controls’ basic module of IQM system and the
option of waste gate control was a logical.
Vijay Pandya, MD, Q.I. Press Controls India
says, “We are very enthusiastic about this order.
From now on, our name will be linked to one
of the most leading and well-known quality
printing newspaper groups in India.” Pandya
shows by this statement that he is content
and has confidence that Q.I. Press Controls
will stay in its leading position through such
collaboration with TOI.

Who knows where the digital technology of today will take you and your
business! The Indian Express’ niche weekly publication Screen has been
totally incarnated into digital version after being acquired by STAR India.
Every movie freak in India would remember
Screen as an age-old film industry magazine
from The Indian Express. This film magazine is
no longer available physically after its acquisition by
STAR India, a division of 21st Century Fox. Screen’s
conversion into digital avatar is a sign signalling an
answer to the most discussed topic, “Is online eating
up the printed newspapers?”
Screen will be available only online in soft format
with audio and video contents adding to texts. The
March 13-19 issue of the weekly film magazine (see

edition. Through the acquisition, the Screen Awards

adding a consumer brand to the television network’s

including all archival materials and transfer of key

film newspaper for 10 years. Priyanka Sinha Jha, who
