The benefits of variable data features are increasing day by day. In current scenario newspaper publishers are also exploring the possibilities and incorporating the similar features in their publications. In the recently concluded Publish Asia one such presentation was made by Guy Forester, general manager print division, Cumbrian Newspapers Ltd, UK mentioning how Kodak S20 print head is turning marketing ideas and concept into reality, ensuring ‘live publication’.


How digital technology creates wonders being fitted with web offset can be seen at CN Newsprint, a division of UK-based CN Group. “By fitting Kodak S20 printhead with our KBA newspaper press, we have brought revolutionary changes in our contract printing services, including variable printing applications for newspapers. Optimally using this digital technology with web offset has enabled us not only to generate additional revenues but make our customers much happy with customized products,” conveys Guy Forester, general manager, CN Group, in an exclusive conversation with SM Dutt from AAN, on the sidelines of Publish Asia 2011 in Bangkok.

CN Newsprint is leading the field in the UK with the first installation of Kodak Stream printhead technology on to a newspaper printing press. “This innovative technology allows us to print a totally unique section on every individual newspaper, with speed of around 60,000 copies per hour. From serial numbers or barcodes to bingo tickets and high end graphics, this brand new facility opens up a wealth of possibilities for competitions, innovative advertising campaigns, redeemable barcodes, etc,” explains Guy Forester, mentioning how Kodak S20 print head is turning marketing ideas and concepts into reality, ensuring ‘live publication’.

Designed to meet the needs of magazine, newspaper, and commercial insert printers with speeds matching those of web offset presses, the Kodak Prosper S20 is the newest offering in the successful Prosper S series. Powered by Kodak Stream inkjet technology, it integrates easily with existing offset presses or finishing lines and enables personalized, variable promotions; barcodes; coupons; and variable gaming and contests that can drive increased newsstand sales. Variable data promotions have proven to generate higher response rates, and print and marketing service providers now are able to improve return on marketing investment (ROMI) for their clients by employing hybrid printing solutions.
