The Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Q1 2019 reveals that top three Hindi dailies are all from the north— Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar and Amar Ujala.

The Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Q1 2019 reveals that top three Hindi dailies are all from the north— Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar and Amar Ujala.

In the growth graph of Indian newspaper industry, Hindi dailies continue to surge with North India contributing to the maximum growth. Hindi newspapers are front runners in the region, taking over their English counterparts, such as The Times of India, which remains the leader in readership in the English daily category.

As readership survey by IRS Q1 2019 reveals that Hindi newspapers hold top positions in north India, interesting finding in the report is that top three dailies in the list are all from the region. The three toppers are Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar and Amar Ujala. The total readership of Dainik Jagran grew from 703,77,000 to 736,73,000 . According to the ISR report, showing growth in total readership at the second spot is Dainik Bhaskar whose total readership grew from 451,05,000 to 514,05,000. The third spot was occupied by Amar Ujala, which recorded a total readership that stood at 476,45,000 against that of IRS 2017 where their readership count was 460,94,000.

When it comes considering the average issue readership (AIR), the same top three Hindi newspapers took the top three spots. Topping the list again is Dainik Jagran whose AIR increased from being 202,41,000 to 202,58,000. This was followed by Dainik Bhaskar whose AIR again escalated from 138,72,000 to 153,95,000. Finally, it is Amar Ujala with its AIR stood at 101,83,000.

Top 10 players

The survey report of IRS Q1 2019 reveals that most of the Hindi newspapers all over the country are gaining new momentum of growth. Top 10 Hindi dailies listed in report are Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Ujala, Rajasthan Patrika, Prabhat Khabar, Punjab Kesari, Patrika, Navbharat Times, Nai Dunia and Hari Bhoomi.

English titles

When it comes to English dailies whose readerships gain new momentum, the total readership of The Times of India led the list with their number growing from 130,45,000 to 152,36,000. This was followed by The Hindu whose readership escalated from 53,00,000 to 62,260,00. Stood at the third position was The Economic Times whose total readership marked 37,010,00 against 31,03,000 recorded in the previous year. Top seven English dailies in the list of 10 are Mumbai Mirror, The Indian Express, The New Indian Express, The Tribune, The Telegraph, Deccan Chronicle and Mid Day.
