IFRA Expo 2010 docks in Hamburg
-with an abundance of innovations on board

P

reparations for IFRA Expo 2010 have been entering the next phase with new momentum. The fortieth edition of the leading event for the newspaper and media industry to be held this year in Hamburg (from Oct 04-06) will present an abundance of innovations.

The seaport Hamburg is an international metropolis and a media city. The new Messe Hamburg offers optimal conditions for IFRA Expo that will be held in three halls: hall A1 for digital technologies, systems and software; halls A3 and A4 for prepress, printing and finishing.

The new ‘Media Port’ in hall A1 will show publishing trends in online, mobile and print. The high-profile programme on stage opening to all visitors will present best practice examples from all over the world. It is of interest not only for newspaper production managers, but also and especially for magazine and corporate publishers. During the closing event on October 06, the award winners of the competition for membership in the International Newspaper Color Quality Club 2010–2012 will receive their prizes. On October 07, the post-conference ‘WAN-IFRA Advertising Summit’ will take place, in cooperation with INMA (International Newspaper Marketing Association).

Although the duration of this year’s event will be shortened by one day, the opening hours have been extended: from 9.30 to 18.00 h. Entrance fees for visitors will be reduced significantly: a day ticket for visitors can be purchased from EUR 15 including VAT (by registering online from May 2010 on).

This year’s IFRA Expo in Hamburg will be the fortieth time that this annual event has taken place. The first exhibition for the news publishing industry was held in 1970 with 54 exhibitors from ten countries on 1124 sq m stand space in Mainz and was attended by about 600 participants from 21 countries. Since that time, it grew steadily and has become the world’s leading event for the newspaper publishing and media industry. This is the second time, after 1985, that IFRA Expo ‘docks’ in Hamburg.
