PRESSLINE INDIA and Welbound Worldwide gear up to manufacture high-speed digital machines, web offset presses and other web transport systems

In 1989, two visionaries—KC Sanjeev, a marketing wizard, and N Kumar, an ace machine designer—got partnered to present something novel to the graphic arts industry. The result was the invention of hot melt perfect binding machine, which was a most needed technology for India in the late 80s and early 90s. This is how Welbound was born bringing a technological breakthrough that truly revolutionised the country’s un-organised post printing segment.

Welbound’s joint venture with PRESSLINE INDIA is the result of the most cherished relation the two companies have developed over two decades.

The invention

Introduction of Welbound, the Indian version of perfect binding took production to new heights, which otherwise was too laborious and time consuming due to the then traditional methods like manual spine gluing and cover pasting. A big leap

Prior to Welbound, only imported brands were being used in India and hot-melt adhesives did not have much dependability. The quality of machines also did not have much compatibility to Indian conditions. Perfect bound books did not have much durability as adhesives could not resist the country’s extremely high and low temperatures. Slowly good quality hot-melt adhesives and better crafted machines with multi roll applicators side glue, pre-melters and others got introduced and users started having faith in perfect binding. Three decades of association

“As we take a stroll down memory lane, I remember when the first single clamp Welbound perfect binding machine from Intimate Machines Private Limited landed in Delhi in 1992 and installed at SAKU in Khanpur,” recalls Satish Bajwa, Chairman & Managing Director, PRESSLINE INDIA Pvt Ltd. Vinod Kumar Gulati, owner of SAKU Group, happened to be the first adopter of the machine and who kept full faith in PRESSLINE India and Welbound. Today the portfolio consists of thousands of products comprising Single Clamp, 6 Clamp, 7 Clamp, 12 Clamp, 18 Clamp Perfect Binding Machines, PUR Binding, Folding Machines, Three Knife Trimmers, Gathering Machines, Saddle Stitchers, Colt Pinning and Trimming Machine with offline and online operations.

Latest development

In order to provide an acceptable solution for the Indian market and other developing countries, the R&D departments of PRESSLINE and Wellbound Worldwide in association with Monotech Systems, a leading manufacturer and supplier of industrial inkjet printers, digital level printing machines and others, have developed high speed inkjet web machine with online folding, cover feeding, pinning and trimming on one hand and gathering, cover feeding and perfect binding on the other.
