Report for America to place 250 jounalists in 164 local newsrooms in 2020

Report for America, founded by Charles Sennott and Steven Waldman, who are veteran journalists and social entrepreneurs dedicated to saving journalism, has announced that the firm will field 250 emerging journalists in 164 host news organisations to serve local communities across 46 states across the US in 2020. This is more than four times the size of the 2019 class, who have been reporting in some 50 local news organisations across 28 states and Puerto Rico. This marks the single biggest hiring announcement of journalists in the recent past, which comes as a direct response to the worsening crisis in local news across the country.

Being a national service programme that places talented, emerging journalists into local news organisations to report for one to two years on under-covered issues and communities, Report for America is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, Report for America addresses an urgent need in journalism at a time when news deserts are widening across the country.
