Publish Asia again goes to Bangkok

The major annual Asian newspaper convention organised by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), Publish Asia 2011 is set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand from April 27-29. For its 11th edition under the theme ‘Driving future-proof media growth’, Publish Asia will focus on successful case studies showing how media companies in Asia and elsewhere are taking advantage of the economy’s recovery to improve performances and also define and implement innovative strategies that will help secure the future.

“Publish Asia’s main industry partners have endorsed Thailand as their preferred venue for 2011. Going back to Bangkok was therefore an easy decision to take for us,” said Pichai Chuensuksawadi, editor-in-chief of The Bangkok Post and chairman of WAN-IFRA’s Asian Pacific Committee. “The publishers in Thailand are eager to host peers from across Asia and to benefit from Publish Asia’s unique learning and networking opportunity,” he said.

“We see good reasons for being optimistic,” said Thomas Jacob, WAN-IFRA’s deputy CEO and managing director for Greater Asia Pacific, adding, “2010 was a fairly good year for the news publishing industry in Asia, and prospects for 2011 look even better. Using the better times to adequately prepare for the future is a key.”

Publish Asia 2011 will explore forward thinking innovations in the newsroom with its Newsroom Summit, and for production and technology developments through the Printing Summit conference. The Newsroom Summit will tackle the problems and challenges being faced by editors, managing editors, news editors, chief reporters and all those who are involved in leading and managing newsrooms in a multiple media environment. Aimed at technical and production directors, prepress and plant managers and IT heads who manage the publishing and printing operations, the Printing Summit will concentrate on new technologies and trends with a special emphasis on cost-saving tools and techniques in production.

A new addition is an Advertising Summit focusing on the cross media opportunities, covering the latest trends that are transforming the relationships between media companies, advertisers and agencies. The Expo will showcase the latest technology and service offerings for optimizing newspaper production on print as well as on new media platforms. Other events held at Publish Asia will include one-day, in-depth learning seminars on specific topics and on-site visits to cutting-edge media houses in Bangkok.

The winners of the much awaited Asia Media Awards 2011 will be presented during the Asia Media Awards Gala Dinner on April 28.
