With Ferag : more bundles, fewer personnel

The Giesdorf Media Centre, Detmold, Germany,
which operates two Ferag MultiStack
compensating stackers in the packaging
sector inclusive topsheet production and
Ferag’s SmartStrap strapping machines.
Germany-based the Giesdorf Media Centre is using mailroom systems from Ferag AG, Switzerland, to ready one of Germany’s oldest daily newspapers for dispatch. Following on from TTR conveyor technology and the ETR inserting line, a new packaging sector was recently commissioned at their facility, incorporating two MultiStack compensating stackers inclusive topsheet production and SmartStrap strapping machines. LineMaster handles line control and addressing, and also forms the interface to Giesdorf’s distribution partners. The installation is up and running to the complete satisfaction of the customer and achieves top bundling quality and stability, plus high performance due to short operating cycles for the systems. Savings in personnel have been achieved by the change to automatic topsheet production (with thermal printing).

The Lippische Landes-Zeitung, now in its 242nd year and appearing in full 35x55 cm format, is produced in circulations of around 49,000 for each of the Monday to Friday editions comprising a main product and preprints. The Giesdorf Media Centre also produces some 110,000 copies of the Lippische Neueste Nachrichten advertising paper in half format once a week, and once a month approximately 26,500 copies of the Blomberger Anzeiger. Then there’s an outside product (tabloid) with a 20,000 copy circulation, which is bundled using MultiStack und SmartStrap from Ferag.
