F

ocused on opportunities and perspectives in the media industry, ppi’s Open Days 09 successfully concluded recently in Hamburg, with ten presentations and participation of more than 150 guests. It was for the ninth time when ppi Media customers and decision-makers in the media industry met to exchange their views at this two-day event, with the goal to find out answers to the questions of the newspaper industry, which is currently undergoing a massive upheaval.

Norbert Ohl, COO at ppi Media insisted on the process automation and diversification of products talking about the options daily newspapers have for competing against the growing flood of information on the internet. The global economic crisis has also hit the daily newspapers. The media industry is fighting falling ad rates and a drop in the number of readers. “But every crisis offers an opportunity,” he said, adding, “Those who counteract the rise in prices by increasing the efficiency of their planning and production workflows will be the winners of the future.”

Erik Hofmann, deputy technical director, Freie Presse Chemnitz gave a presentation on ‘automating the printing workflow with manroland Automatic Plate Loading (APL) and printnet OM’, while Laura Koot, managing editor/art director, The National, Abu Dhabi spoke on ‘launching a new newspaper project in record time’.

The query how cross-media ad campaigns can be implemented quickly and effectively was answered in the presentations given by Hans-Henning Scheferling, former head of the DP department, Neue Westfälische, Bielefeld; Martin Ruhle, CTO at ppi Media and Christian Veith, senior consultant at ppi Media. With AdInvent, they presented an innovative, cross-media ad management system not only for the reservation and production of ad formats for online, print and mobile, but especially for the lucrative sale of cross-media ad campaigns.

AdInvent is the first programme to make the number of free and booked ad spaces transparent, and facilitate ad sales significantly. The fact that with ppi’s new application multiple users can access the reservation tool simultaneously via the internet creates a very efficient workflow. “With AdInvent, we are offering our AdMan customers a new option for cross-media ad sales,” said Christian Veith, describing ppi’s innovative software.
