Kasturi & Sons’ fifth DIAMONDSPIRIT
starts production in Coimbatore

The successful operations of the company’s previously
installed presses in Hyderabad and Chennai resulted this order
for the new press from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries confirmed that its 4 x 1 newspaper offset press DIAMONDSPIRIT has been in production since January 2010 at Kasturi & Sons’ new Coimbatore plant in India. This order marks the fifth DIAMONDSPIRIT press purchased by Kasturi & Sons Ltd and was received based on the successful operations of the company’s previously installed presses in Hyderabad and Chennai.

The 4 x 1 DIAMONDSPIRIT press installed at the Coimbatore plant is rated at 75,000 cph with a cutoff of 546mm (21.5 in) and a web width of 1,397mm (55 in). The press is configured with two 4/4 tower printing units, one 1/1 tower printing units, one 2:2 double rotary folder, three reelstands and future provisions for coldset/heatset hybrid printing. The press is operated by the Mitsubishi press control system with automated features including press presetting, ink presetting with CtP interface, colour register control and dual web tension control.

Headquartered in Chennai, Kasturi & Sons Ltd publishes a daily newspaper, The Hindu, with a circulation of more than 1.4 million copies per day. Besides, the company also owns, publishes and prints Business Line, a daily business newspaper; Sportstar, a weekly sports magazine; and Frontline, a fortnightly current affairs magazine. They own and operate twelve printing plants located throughout India, and contracts work out to two additional plants.
