Caxton and CTP Publications sign
licensee agreement for Pongrass
Editorial and Production system

Caxton and CTP Publications have signed an enterprise licensee agreement for a Pongrass Editorial and Production system which will cover all of the Caxton properties which include 120 newspapers and magazines across South Africa.

Following the enterprise licensee agreement of Caxton and CtP Publications for a Pongrass Editorial and Production system, the very initial order includes 500 seat licenses and the new installations will integrate with the existing Caxton ad booking system. Pongrass are pleased to announce the first installation of their Production and Editorial solutions at George on the west cape of South Africa at The Group Editors site which has seven community papers in the area. The rollout will continue throughout the country.

Easy installations

Key to the decision to buy Pongrass was the flexibility of the Pongrass Enterprise technology agreement with backup services from Pongrass as required. Tony Rorke, director of IT at Caxton comments, “We have dealt with Pongrass for some 10 years with the classified pagination product which we integrated at our sites. Purchasing their editorial and production technology allows us to roll out the technology ourselves. Pongrass software uses an open interface and is definitely easy to install and train. The first installation at The Group Editors in George was completed in two weeks with just two staff from Pongrass on-site.”

Background

Pongrass has a long-standing relationship with Caxton’s going back to 2000 when they purchased the Pongrass Classified Pagination software for the group. The introduction of Pongrass’s InDesign based ad production and editorial solution was inline with Caxton’s technology vision. Caxton and CTP Publishers and Printers Limited are recognised as one of the largest publishers of newspapers and magazines in South Africa.

Popular titles

The number of titles falling under the community newspaper division counts a total of 120 publications. The geographic spread of Caxton Community Papers includes Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Kwazulu-Natal, Western Province (Garden Route), Free State and Northern Cape. Caxton’s 10 monthly titles cover a broad range of readers of all demographic groups and a wide variety of interesting topics, including fashion and beauty, food, décor, parenting, travel, entertainment and celebrity.
