‘Universal’ approach at IFRA Expo 10

New Universal press model to be announced in Hamburg

“We are confident and positive about the future of printed newspapers. IFRA Expo presents an excellent opportunity for us to confer with our customers and to emphasize the ownership structure, versatile portfolio and ability to execute that differentiate Goss International as a supplier,” says Jochen Meissner, president and CEO, Goss International.

At the IFRA Expo in Hamburg (Oct 04-06), Goss International is focusing on the globally successful Goss Universal product range, continuing to extend to address emerging requirements. With the announcement of a new addition to the Universal series at the show, the company will emphasise its comprehensive range of newspaper and semi-commercial press options.

More than 4,900 Universal printing units have been installed since the launch of the press model in 1991, configured for an extensive variety of newspaper, semi-commercial and combined operations. The new model to be announced at the show is designed to extend the line-up, providing a unique combination of productivity, flexibility, simplified operation and investment value. “Publishers and printers of all sizes are demanding added versatility and efficiency to produce a wider range of products at lower costs. With the most complete range of large- and small-format press platforms and extensive expertise in customizing these presses for specific requirements, we are in a strong position to support these customers,” explains Jochen Meissner, president and CEO, Goss International.

New since the last IFRA Expo is a 4x2 Universal XL model which - along with the 4x1 Universal XL - complements the single-width Universal and higher-performance double-width Goss Uniliner presses. Available in web widths up to 1220 millimeters the 4x2 Universal XL can be installed in single- or double-former configurations, equipped with a Goss quarterfold option and with heatset or UV dryers. Like all models in the Universal portfolio, it can also be configured in the Goss T90 configuration, with the pasters on the floor level and at right angles to the press line for added versatility.

These latest additions to the proven Universal family of presses - and their wide range of configuration and auxiliary options - combine web and folding versatility, while still benefiting from the trademark flexibility, simplified operation and modest investment cost of the Universal press platform.

Goss International will also focus on its extensive Goss Lifetime Support programme at IFRA Expo, including integrated enhancement, parts, service and training options designed to improve performance, reduce operating and maintenance costs and extend the competitive lifespan of existing press systems. Innovative new developments include increasingly popular Goss Flexible Service plans allowing printers and publishers to purchase blocks of hours at discounted rates and apply them for service and maintenance at their discretion.

“We are confident and positive about the future of printed newspapers,” says Meissner, adding “IFRA Expo presents an excellent opportunity for us to confer with our customers and to emphasize the ownership structure, versatile portfolio and ability to execute that differentiate Goss International as a supplier.”
