The Guardian editor-in-chief
to speak at WAN-IFRA India’10: Jaipur

-marking high efficiency and added value in
newspaper and magazine printing

Alan Rusbridger, the editor-in-chief of The Guardian, UK is confirmed to speak at the WAN-IFRA India 2010 Conference to be held in Jaipur on Sep 15-16. Rusbridger, well respected and outspoken about his views on modern journalism will address on the topic of ‘Going forward with print and digital’. The Guardian, UK has embraced the digital audience very well, while remaining successful with its printed newspaper, and their iPhone application was downloaded a record 70,000 times during the very first month of its launch in January this year. Rusbridger will share his vision of the print and digital products and how they can survive in the future.

The conference, the eighteenth annual event of WAN-IFRA in the sub-continent, is co-sponsored by The Indian Newspaper Society. The event will have two parallel conferences including Newsroom Summit South Asia, and Printing Summit. The Newsroom Summit South Asia will discuss topics including: strategies for modern newsroom practice, can content generate revenue, the realities of cross media-friendly newsrooms, and best practice for attracting young readers.

While WAN-IFRA India’s popular ‘Printing Summit’ will discuss topics including: process management principles, managing high speed printing of newspapers, supply chain management and partnerships with vendors, case studies on investment in tough times, and latest technologies that make print advertiser-friendly.

Others international speakers include: Terry Maguire, newspaper consultant, France; Dr Dietmar Schantin, director, WAN-IFRA Newsplex; Chew Kai Kim, vice president, operations & commercial, Singapore Press Holdings and Aralynn McManne, executive director - young reader development, WAN-IFRA.

The event will be preceded by two parallel pre-conference workshops on September 14 at the same venue. For the first time a workshop on ‘Mobile publishing system’ is being organised to present user experiences and explore the various vendor systems that provide efficient mobile publishing possibilities. The second parallel workshop on ‘Planning and implementing a multimedia newsroom’ will provide learning on converged newsroom operations.
